Today we took the 7:30am train from Tangier back to Casablanca. 4 women were in the compartment with us and 1 shared some kind of nuts with us. They tasted like almonds, but were much bigger. When we got off the train we walked to the Central Market. It was stalls selling fruits and vegetables, a fish market, and restaurants all the way around the outside that were all serving fish. There was no menu. You paid 1 price and got what you got; a salad which was mostly tomatoes, a bowl of lentils, and a plate of 4 whole fried fish, whole fried prawns, and fried calamari. And lots of bread. I asked for butter. It took the waiter a while to figure out what I wanted. I saw him leave the market restaurant. Then he brought me a whole tub of butter. When he brought the bill, it was 70 MAD per person as we had been told, plus 10 MAD for the butter. LOL.
We then ran for the main road and quickly got a taxi to the Hassan II Mosque for the last tour of the day. It's the 3rd largest mosque in the world and holds 25,000 people. It was finished 20 years ago and took 6 years round the clock to build. It was built by 2500 workers and 10,000 craftsmen. The tile work and the wood carving are unbelievable.
We then met our tour group and leader back at the hotel. Besides us, there is a girl from Indiana, a girl from Australia, a woman from Switzerland, one from Toronto, a couple from Niagara Falls, Canada, and a man from northern England. One woman hadn't arrived yet.
